Know Your Basic Chinese Animals

Some local street vendors are a bit creative including dog, cat, raw pig etc. So knowing the names of animals can go a long way. 🙂

Where can one eat for less than a dollar or 7 yuan (USD to Chinese Yuan is ~ 1 to 7. 1$ will buy 7 Yuan (Rmb))? In Guangzhou just North of Hong Kong boarding Shenzhen and Dongguan a “Lunch Box” will sell for 4rmb that includes Rice and Vegetable. Add some meat and it will be 5-7rmb. In Rural areas you’ll probably eat for half or around 50 cents for sure. Another option is to buy things in the market and have a way to fix your own meals.

Under $2.00 dinner

American is not cheap or healthy, but safe.

Food from chain restaurants like KFC (50 yuan to feed like 5 people!!!!! 50 yuan is like 7 dollars) and McDonalds costs about the same compared to here in the US but small restaurants are usually much cheaper (like 6 yuan for a bowl of noodles, which is less than $1). So if you don’t want to spend a lot on food, don’t eat at chain/fast food restaurants.

And Just In Case . . .

Bring plenty of medicine for the runs and fever in case your stomach hasn’t been seasoned to their way of cooking. Berberine Hydrochloride. It’s great for the runs and bouts of gas . Drink only and I mean only bottled water with the seal opened by you. If you do take water into a jug, know the source. Even if it’s boiled it depends on how long and what if any other chemicals are in there.
